Loose Rubber Mulch
Using rubber shred for landscaping or as a play-surface will provide you with some impressive benefits: The way it is manufactured is also vitally important; not all rubber mulch products are the same - always ask for the EcoScape® brand.
These are just some of the reasons why we feel you should use a high quality rubber mulch from EcoScape®.
- Low maintenance, therefore cheaper to own.
- Helpts to curb weeds, mould or fungus. Larger shreds than granulated rubber,
so it will not easily float or wash away.
- Does not attract pets and wildlife mess. Retains surface tension moisture only, so it doesn't stay wet.
- Does not blow around or easily scatter.
- Reduced settlement, no compaction or rotting to alow for, so cost effective long-term life cost.
- Rubber taken from tyres with no metal at the point of source - Less risk of contanimants.
- Drop testes in accordance with BS EN1177 standards for playground use. Great for domestic applications and areas of 'free-play' (NB maintained minimum thickness in use applies.)
- Toy safe classification.
- Comfortable underfoot and more natural aesthetics.
- Single stage colourant application - gives the shred an authentic natural look.
- Shredded solid rubber (not chunks) - elongated giving better layering and dimensional stability.
- Consultant helpline to answer your questions and assist with the calculations for your project.

so it will not easily float or wash away.
Easy Install
Often no lower sub-base preparation* is required as it can usually be laid over most existing surfaces, including soil, concrete or old bark if necessary.
First decide if the thickness you require is to be above the existing levels or to be recessed, and prepare the edge detail accordingly with boards, rubber kerb, or dig out the existing surface to the required depth.
Although not a requirement, if over tarmac or concrete and the edge of the area is suitably retained; the use of geo-textile material on to soil, old bark or stone is highly recommended, to restrict weed growth from the base material and avoiding mixing of the base into the mulch during the products life.
Installation is then easy, purely empty the 10 kilo bags into your retained area, and rake out as appropriate to your required depth for the relevant application.
(*Consideration should be given to the drainage capability and levels of the proposed surface on which EcoScape® mulch will be laid and when appropriate a shallow sand or clean stone raft, or drains should be installed to aid the fast draining capability of the mulch; in particular if the new surface is to be recessed into the ground.)
Typical Coverage calculations - Landscaping and Domestic Play applications
8 kilos of product per square metre for cosmetic landscaping without footfall @ 25mm (1")
16 kilos of product per square metre for busy landscaping areas, 'free-play' areas and play equipment on free draining loose soil, on which re-levelling of the Mulch will take place on a regular basis* @ 50mm (2")
24 - 32 kilos of product per square metre for play equipment with an allowance to include for potential displacement and variations in sub-base hardness** @ 75mm - 100mm (3" - 4") (Or greater thickness as required depending on equipment height and level of activity).
One metric ton / 100 bags equals 3.3 cubic metres. Maximum 100 bags to a pallett.
Pricing Policy
We generally supply in easy to handle 10 kilo bags. Pricing can be volume related and coverage rates can vary with some applications, so call us with the dimensions of your area and application; one of our consultants will calculate the total material cost for you.

» How to Order
*Test data has shown that when tested in accordance with BS EN1177 test method, the loose EcoScape® Mulch over a loose topsoil surface has reached a critical fall height up to 3m at a depth of 50mm. However, as all loose fill materials may displace during use, we always suggest that when an impact absorbing surface is desired in a domestic situation, the depth is increased according to the degree of maintenance and level of activity. (As with all loose fill impact absorbing products, raking is recommended to maintain the desired thickness.)
**Test data has shown that when tested in accordance with BS EN1177 test method, the loose EcoScape® Mulch over a concrete base has given a critical fall height of up to 1.5m at a depth of 100mm. However please note we understand there is no formal requirement or standard for safety surfacing to be used in residential situations and you should carry out your own risk assessment as appropriate to your individual circumstances. NB Commercial or public areas are covered by more detailed requirements relating to loose-fill impact absorbing products, requiring greater depths of all loose fill products in a public environment. For details please speak to one of our consultants.
